The
Algosaibi Diving and Marine Service Company was initially formed
in the late 1950's by Sheikh Khalifa Algosaibi who had been
closely involved in the traditional familybusiness of pearl
diving inBahrain since the end of the last century. He
recognized the potential for offshore diving supportas the Arabian
American Oil Company began to develop its Arabian Gulf Oilfields. The
initial operations were based in Bahrain and the original diving
support vessel was a converted dhow with a portable diving module
on board.
From the rather basic beginnings, the Company developed to
the extent that by the late 1970's it was operating a fleet
of 6 chartered vessels for use as air diving support vessels.
In the
early 1980's, the provision of diving services was enhanced
by the inclusion of associated marine services. To this end,
two purpose built 37 meter diving support vessels were commissioned.
These vessels the m/v Algosaibi 1 and m/v Algosaibi 2, were
provided with a fully integrated diving support system and
delivered in 1982.
Following
the success of this approach, the expansion of the fleet into
wholly owned vessels was approved in 1984. This
led to the delivery and entry into service during 1985 of
six further 47 meter purpose built diving support vessels,
the m/v Algosaibi 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26. These vessels
have proved to be extremely reliable and versatile and still
continue to operate effectively in the provision of safe and
efficient diving support.
Concurrently
with the vessel development program, the Company extended
its' support capabilities in 1985 by constructing a new operations
base at Ras Tanajib in the northern Arabian Gulf. The purpose
of the base was to provide logistics support to the offshore
fleet and its marine and diving personnel.
The Company's
main area of operations is in the northern sector of the Arabian
Gulf, where it has been the primary provider of a comprehensive
range of diving services to the region's oil companies and
major subsea construction companies.
The Company
is able to operate in all water depths and
diving modes and offers a full range of support services.
The Company
also carries a large inventory of support equipment consistent
with its operations in the form of diving plant and equipment, remote
operated vehicles, subsea tooling, TV/Video systems, nondestructive
testing (NDT) equipment and inspection equipment.
The Company
owns and operates a fleet of 9 diving support vessel. These
vessels are classed with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
under the notation A1 AMS. Six of the vessels, the m/v Algosaibi
21-26 are of a standard offshore work vessel design with an
overall length of 46 meters. Three of the vessels, the m/v
Algosaibi 1 and 2 and the m/v Algosaibi 42 are shallow draught
vessels. The m/v Algosaibi 1 and 2 are of an overall length
of 37 meters and the Algosaibi 42 of an overall length of
53 meters.
Each vessel is fully equipped with a fully integrated air
diving system and can also be utilized as a base for mixed
gas diving equipment and operations.
The vessels
primarily operate in support of Company diving operations
in the northernsector of the Arabian Gulf,
but are well suited for general marine and utility work operation
and have been extensively utilized as survey support vessels.
The TechnicalServices
Division was formed in response to an increasing need from
domestic and international markets for specialized support
in marine, diving and pressure related technology. It has been
constructed around and developed from the extensive knowledge
and expertise acquired from the many years of design, construction
and maintenance of marine and pressure related diving systems
in support of offshore diving and marine operations.
Its core
business activities are in the provision of marine, diving
and pressure related technical and maintenance services. It
is currently engaged in a variety of major projects for the
provision of a full range of technical services for the upgrading
and maintenance of various facilities such as: Aviation Altitude
Training Facility, Hyperbaric
Oxygen Therapy Chamber, Facilities and Diving Compression
Chambers, and associated plant equipment.
The Company
has an extensive Operations Base and Workshop facility at
Ras Tanajib which occupies an overall area of about 12,500
square meters. The Operations Base is fully equipped and staffed
to provide project management and logistics support for its
diving and marine services.
The workshop
facility is fully equipped and staffed to provide for the
maintenance, repair, and upgrading of the Company vessels
and associated machinery, plant, and equipment.
It is
also fully equipped and staffed for the fabrication maintenance,
and repair of Company diving plant and equipment.
The
Company designs its own systems and engineers and fabricates
the dive control panels, decompression and therapeutic chamber
control panels and other components of its diving systems
from top quality equipment and materials.
